It’s been a stellar week in New York for the first official week of womenswear shows. And the final day was one of the brightest with the likes of Michael Kors, Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Marc Jacobs closing out proceedings in style…
Michael Kors
What you need to know: Ahead of his show, Kors explained that his Fall/Winter ’18 collection was a love letter to New York and the individuals that lived within it. As such, the collection that stormed the runway at the Lincoln Centre had a little something for everyone. Pretty midi dresses sashayed down the catwalk alongside pyjama-inspired separates, luxe athleisure-wear and cool trench coats. Plus, the designer’s collaboration with illustrator David Downtown was seen on an elegant strapless dress worn by Bella Hadid.
Instagram-worthy moment: There was so much to take in during Michael Kors’ show but we couldn’t go past the designer’s diverse line-up of models. A true celebration of beauty of all kinds, Kors proved that his designs are for every woman. Oh, and the designer sent faux fur down the runway for the first time since pledging to go fur-free late last year.
Maryam Nassir Zadeh
What you need to know: Maryam Nassir Zadeh’s newest collection saw a stylish juxtaposition of masculine and feminine silhouettes across pieces that were made for those with an individual sense of style. An Eighties-esque crushed satin midi dress walked alongside tailored trousers, off-shoulder jumpers, hooded trench coats and high-shine separates.
Trending tones: The designer worked with a palette of bright neons this season, with hi-vis orange, yellow and green punctuating monochromatic pieces.
Marc Jacobs
What you need to know: Marc Jacobs’ latest show took place in the Park Avenue Amory and was a celebration of Eighties extravagance. Big shoulders (and we mean big), bold hues and oversized belts dominated the collection, inspired by the couture looks of the era. The collection was certainly eyecatching, if not somewhat impractical away from the runway but it made for a striking series of looks that provided the final show of New York Fashion Week with much-needed impact.
What you might have missed: Those models not adorned with oversized black hats and scarves were given dye jobs that complemented the neon hues of the outfits they were wearing.
