Baselworld ’18 spotlight: Must-have creations

Here's what caught our eye...
Luxury and horology are at the forefront at Baselworld 2018 and now that it's officially over, we've highlighted the top five releases you need to know about...

baselworld 2018 has officially come to an end but there was a spectacular showcase of the finest timepieces and jewellery creations during this year’s fair. Every year, top brands such as Bulgari, Omega, Chopard and Tag Heuer (to name a few) are on site to reveal their newest unique, one-of-a-kind creations and to debut the latest collections with which to update our arm candy game.

This year, there has been a slew of horology masterpieces but there were five in particular that caught our eye. Here’s why…

Bulgari LVCEA Skeleton

Earlier this week, news emerged that Bulgari made Baselworld headlines by setting two new world records, courtesy of the release of two new models. The Diva Finissima Minute Repeater is the world’s thinnest minute repeater, whilst the new men’s novelty, Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic, is the world’s slimmest self-winding watch coming in at a tiny 3.95mm.

However, it wasn’t just those two timepieces that stole the spotlight.

Bulgari extended its popular LVCEA collection with the introduction of the new Skeleton timepiece. Truly embodying a strong feminine aesthetic, the new LVCEA Skeleton timepiece is the only skeletonised watch on the market made expressly for women and is the first skeleton watch in history that takes the letters of the watchmaker’s logo and integrates it into the design.

Tag Heuer Formula 1 Lady

In January, Tag Heuer introduced a new timepiece,  called the Formula 1 Lady, and the maison debuted the expanded range and showcased its new redesign at Baselworld.

The perfect blend of fashion and functionality, the timepiece has a new shape, new materials, new dials and new straps, truly offering its wearer a bespoke, feminine timepiece.

Available in a range of colours (think brown, blue, white, red, black leather or in metal), one of the newest features on the timepiece is a double-plate system on the dial. This creates a play on colours thanks to its contrast.

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M

Omega’s Seamaster collection is one of the brand’s most iconic ranges to date and after a 25-year hiatus, the brand revealed a new edition of the Seamaster, entirely dedicated to the world of diving and to highlight the brand’s long-lasting partnership with James Bond.

The timepiece received a complete makeover and now comes in 14 unique models, including six in stainless steel and eight in a mix of stainless steel and gold.

Some of the timepiece’s newest features include an exceptionally-made dial made from polished ceramic and available in black, blue or chrome. Also, the new size of the iconic watch is sitting pretty at a larger 42 mm, and each new Diver 300M has been given a Master Chronometer Calibre 8800, which results in a higher realm of precision, performance and magnetic resistance.

de Grisogono

Synonymous with the most luxurious sparkling creations, de Grisogono showcased yet another stunning display at Baselworld ’18. The brand’s Fawaz Gruosi (who exclusively spoke to Buro 24/7 Middle East about the Cannes Film Festival last year) has envisioned time into both masculine and feminine tales through timepieces and jewellery.

The first timepiece revealed was the New Retro Double Jeu, a stunning new quartz movement that comes complete with a beautiful dual dial display (a rectangular sapphire format and in a circular format). On either side of the dial, the stylised 3 and 9 o’clock numerals are set with 62 diamonds and the timepiece comes in a choice of white or pink gold.

The next horology masterpiece is the New Retro Power Reserve. A blend of sophisticated mechanisms and exquisite finishings, the timepiece also includes an in-line calibre that is skeletonised to reveal how delicate the finishings are. The timepieces are available in pink or white gold, fitted with an alligator leather strap.

On the jewellery front, the maison revealed new sparkling creations from the Allegra Toi & Moi collection.

Messika

This year has been quite a successful year for Valerie Messika and her namesake jewellery brand. Last month, Valerie was in town to discuss all things sparkling and to reveal that she will be opening a new address in The Dubai Mall.

The theme behind Messika’s showcase at Basel this year centred around the ‘Modern Fairy’ and the ensuing collection was as exquisite as it was elegant. Titled Arabian Nights, the collection features five different sets, all based on the oval cut diamond.
