The iconic Chanel ‘N°5’ bottle and the enchanting scent that has lingered on for over a century are synonymous with the House of Chanel. Over the decades, the fragrance, the numeral associated with it, and the architecture of its bottle have inspired many products across categories. Now, the Chanel ‘N°5’ manifests in the dazzling world of Chanel high jewelry.
In the French Maison’s fine jewelry creation studio, headed by Patrice Leguéreau, the legendary Chanel ‘N°5’ was meticulously deconstructed, translating its components–the bottle, the stopper, the number, the floral notes, and the olfactory formula–into magnificent jewels, debuting the Chanel ‘N°5’ high jewelry collection.
The highlight of the Chanel ‘N°5’ high jewelry collection is a glorious necklace that skillfully integrates the silhouette of the emblematic perfume bottle and its stopper into the diamond-frosted structure. The architecture of the bottle takes a bejeweled form, with a rare diamond sitting majestically at the center.
“From the beginning of the process, I knew that I wanted to do a piece with a very special gemstone,” Leguéreau continues. “After months of research, a diamond was found that would support this idea. For the ‘N°5’ collection, I wanted to source an extraordinary diamond to reflect Gabrielle Chanel‘s exacting standards used in the creation of the fragrance,” he further added.
To honor Madame Coco Chanel’s brand-defining olfactory creation, the exquisite diamond was precisely cut to 55.55 carats and mounted onto the necklace, which also features a clasp in the form of the numerical five. More than 700 expertly sourced diamonds bring the necklace to life. Scintillating pearl-shaped diamonds cascade under the mammoth center stone, mimicking perfume drops and the blossoming floral notes of the scent.
Blended with floral notes, the Chanel ‘N°5’ blossoms with every spritz. To emulate this splash of the fragrant elixir, the Chanel fine jewelry creation studio imagined a stunning layered necklace fitted with golden topaz and yellow sapphires along with delicate diamonds to emulate the effect of an olfactory explosion.
“I always have the ‘N°5’ bottle on my desk,” says Leguéreau. “When I design, I infuse the air with the fragrance. The perfume inspires me greatly—as does the woman who wears it.”
A timeless alchemy of may rose, ylang-ylang, and the delicate night-blooming jasmine, the Chanel ‘N°5’, the signature flowers comprising the scent, bloom at the hands of the Maison’s jewelry artisans taking the shape of exceptional bijoux.The number’ 5′ echoes throughout the collection both in form and in spirit. The iconic shape of the ‘N°5’ stopper mirrors the precise proportions of Place Vendôme. Throughout the collection, emerald-cut diamonds, crafted to the same ratio as Place Vendôme, form a spellbinding visual motif.
“I didn’t just wish to translate the fragrance, but to write the ‘N°5’ story in high jewelry,” says Leguéreau, who immersed himself into the aromatic Chanel ‘N°5’ universe to bring the impressive 120-piece high jewelry collection to life.
