Raf Simons, the Belgian fashion designer and Co-Creative Director of Prada, stunned the industry today as he announced that he is shuttering his namesake brand on the label’s official Instagram account.
“The Spring/Summer 2023 collection is the conclusion of an extraordinary journey and the final season of the Raf Simons fashion brand,” Simons shared on Instagram. “I lack the words to say how proud I am of all that we have achieved. I am grateful for the incredible support from my team, from my collaborators, from the press and buyers, from my friends and family, and from our devoted fans and loyal followers. Thank you all for believing in our vision and for believing in me.”
The news comes just over a month since he staged what is now his final runway collection during London’s Frieze Art Fair, which turned into a rave after the last model took their turn on the catwalk.
Considered one of the most influential names in fashion, Simons quickly gained cult status for youth-inspired collections that referenced underground art and music into recognisable minimalist silhouettes.
The next time we’ll be seeing his magic on the runway will be when he presents Prada’s menswear collection in January.
