On day one of Royal Ascot, all attention shifted off the tracks and to H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as he claimed the title of King’s Stand Stakes on the opening day of the racing festival (Godolphin’s Blue Point won the race). And the award was presented by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (who championed a Middle Eastern designer, no less).
Now, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai received yet another winning trophy — this time from Queen Elizabeth II.
Dubai-based Godolphin’s Blue Point (ridden by James Doyle and trained by Charlie Appleby) galloped to victory and claimed the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Group 1) title, and this marks the first time that a horse has won two Royal Ascot races at the same meeting since Choisir in 2003.
