Just in: A Game of Thrones prequel series in the works

YES!
Wondering what you were going to do when Game of Thrones finishes next year? Worry not...

Earlier this year, fans of HBO’s award-winning Game of Thrones show received some exciting news courtesy of Maisie Williams, who revealed the release date of the series’ final season

And althought we’re excitedly waiting for season eight to officially hit screens, we’re also unsure as to what we’ll binge-watch once it’s done. However, some thrilling news emerged overnight that was music to our ears.

According to Entertainment Weekly, HBO has officially greenlit a follow-up pilot for a Game of Thrones prequel series and it sounds just as amazing as the hit blockbuster.

The network released an official description of the show’s storyline which read: “[The show] is another tale spread across multiple locations and clans. Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

Whilst the creators behind the show, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, are busy working on producing a new trilogy of Star Wars films, the new prequel series will be written by George R.R Martin (the man who wrote the books that GoT is based on) and Jane Goldman (who wrote the script for the upcoming Disney live-action The Little Mermaid film).
