It was quite literally, the best show from the summer of 2017. Agreed? Not only did Big Little Lies feature an all-star cast of powerful women (looking at you Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz and Shailene Woodley) but it hit home on important issues like motherhood, friendship, and marriage.
Now, we already know that heavyweight actress Meryl Streep is joining the cast for season two but now we’ve got more plot to reveal. But don’t worry, not in a spoiler kind of way…
We’ve come to know that the show will make its return in June 2019. Not long now!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, season two will be directed by a woman. Andrea Arnold will replace the Emmy Award-winning Jean-Marc Vallée. Female cast = female director. Makes sense…
The Plot Thickens
Not that the end of last season didn’t leave us on a cliff-hanger already, season two will “explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode…the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom” according to E! News.
So it seems Monterey will welcome Corey Brockfield (played by Douglas Smith), a surfer and colleague of Jane’s (Shailene Woodley). The kids will have a new teacher called Michael Perkins (Mo McRae), and Denis O’Hare will portray a character called Ira Farber. But the most significant additions will be Martin Donovan and Crystal Fox, who will play Bonnie’s (Zoe Kravitz) parents, Martin and Elizabeth.
Is This The End?
Ok, this is probably not the best time to say it, but the show is likely to end after season two. *Cries*. The show’s creator David E. Kelley said, “It’s one and two, and we like our closure with season two, but that will probably be it.” Well, we don’t need a decoder to know what that means.
So with the last caveat in mind, make the most of season two while you can. And then, you know, binge-watch on repeat…
In the meantime, see what new releases will come on Netflix this month.
