For the past week, we’ve seen the rise of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and it has literally taken over our social media feeds – as it should. The world has come together to promote solidarity and all eyes are on the brands to see how they’ve been using their platforms to contribute to the movement.
From Dubai’s very own Huda Beauty to international brands including Glossier, here’s a list of beauty brands that are demanding change by their appreciated gestures, donations and efforts to fight racial injustice.
HUDA BEAUTY
“At Huda Beauty we stand against racism today and always. In solidarity with the black community and the Black Lives Matter movement, we are pausing our regular content.

We will be donating $500k across organizations focused on combating racial injustice: Black Lives Matter, The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, The Equal Justice Initiative, The Marsha P Johnson Institute, and We The Protesters.
In an effort to make an impact within our own industry, we will be allocating an additional $500k in the form of grants of Black-owned beauty businesses.”
NUDESTIX
“Education serves as a gateway to better opportunities, but is not equal due to systemic inequality. To help provide access to traditional education that we believe will create change and leadership for future black generations, we are donating a minimum of $25,000 over the next two years to NUDESTIX created BEAUTY BE CHANGE scholarships for post-secondary education of POC in marginalized and oppressed communities. We hope this will help alleviate some of the financial burdens that underrepresented individuals may face.
We are also proud to announce the launch of our BEAUTY BE CHANGE Instagram Live Series. This live series will speak to current and relevant social issues. At this time, we are dedicated to speaking to the current state of racial injustice. We will be featuring POC in our community and addressing how they’ve personally experience racial injustices and what we can do to fight them, as well as share inspirational stories of success as a positive light during this challenging time.
We will also be launching BEAUTY BE CHANGE business fund for POC working as makeup artists or content creators to provide work in the beauty industry and black small business owners, and are donating $20,000 to this cause.”

“George Floyd and I are both from Houston. We actually both went to Lamar High School, though he graduated from Yates. We were separated by time. We weren’t the same age, we weren’t in the same year. But we walked the same hallways, maybe sat in the same classrooms, albeit at different moments in time. We had entirely different lives, different opportunities, and faced different challenges. Had we both been in the exact same situation, at the exact same moment, I think it would have ended differently for me. Actually, I know it would have. That reality pierces me to my core.⠀

Being from Houston, as a team, we want to support the black community locally and are looking for meaningful ways that we can support. Hopefully we’ll have something firmed up in the next day or so. But in recognition that this level of discrimination, hatred, and brutality is rampant across the entire United States, yesterday we made a $50,000 donation commitment to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund.
