As we navigate an increasingly digital world, keeping up with fashion trends is harder than ever before. The conventional trickle-down pattern, where designers, celebrities, and global elites dictated fashion, is now countered by a parallel trickle-up pattern generated via trends born on our virtual feeds. The trend cycles today—especially those of trickle-up styles—are also a lot shorter, characterized by a swift rise to fame before being flushed out of the scene to be replaced by the next “cool” thing.

Finding it challenging to stay on top of sartorial trends?

Lucky for you, we’ve done the homework. Scroll down to discover the 15 major 2024 fashion trends that will dominate our wardrobes.

SERIOUSLY SHORT SHORTS

How short is too short? The fashion world is ready to bare its legs with bum shorts destined for a summer of fame in 2024. The ‘No Pants Club,’ led by Miu Miu and the holy grail of “It” girls—Kendall and Kylie JennerBella Hadid, and Hailey Bieber—is finally catching on. The audacious trend is all about forgoing bottoms in favor of ultra-mini shorts or, in the case of the cool girls, straight-up undies. While the Jenner sisters and their BFF Bieber paired their pantsless look with tights, Hadid deemed it unnecessary.

CHERRY GIRLS

Now, this is a trend that has already found its footing. Sprouting from the vibrant red trend that ruled Fall/Winter 2023, burgundy now wears the crown of the hottest hue of the season. A quick glance at the Spring/Summer 2024 runways of the likes of GucciHermès, and Bottega Veneta confirms that the cherry hue will remain dominant through 2024.

A ROSY LIFE

It’s time to undo your bows. While the coquette trend is still a huge hit, it peaked towards the end of 2023 and is likely to see a dip in 2024. A new embellishment–a rosette–popularized by Magda Butrym and Sandy Liang is waiting to take its place. The rose motif, in general, will be everywhere this year, especially around spring. Duh, we know.

While the flower was abundant on the Spring/Summer 2024 runways of Alexander McQueenBalmain, and David Koma, among others, it will be 3D roses that will steal the show in the coming months. Plastered across bags, shoes, accessories, jewelry, and even clothes, sculptural roses will be one of the major 2024 fashion trends.

OFF DUTY CORPORATE GIRLIES

In the post-pandemic world, the lines between what is considered workwear and what isn’t have long been blurred. This has further been perpetuated by Gen Z’s ‘Comfort First’ attitude, giving birth to fluid workwear or, as Tiktok calls it, ‘Corpcore.’ Think oversized blazers with pleated mini skirts, tights, and ties. Furthermore, conventional businesswear is no longer limited to boardrooms. Blazers and trousers, for instance, have tapped out of office buildings, making their way into our day-to-day wardrobes. This blend between workwear and everyday basics will continue well into 2024.

SPORTS CORE

Last year it was moto jackets and football T-shirts, this year it’s rugby shirts. Rubgy sweatshirts teamed with skirts and loose-fitting Bermuda shorts will add a touch of sportiness to the fashion mix. Polo T-shirts paired with pleated mini skirts will also be prevalent.

THE WILD SIDE

Leopard prints will make a roaring comeback in 2024. We are talking about everything from printed pants, tops, slinky slip dresses, tights bags, and jackets to full-blown Cruella de Vil-esque fluffy coats; leopard prints are back in business.

ECLECTIC GRANDPA

In 2024, Gen Z is pulling style cues from their grandfather, giving birth to what has been dubbed as the “Eclectic Grandpa” trend on TikTok. But what exactly does it mean? Think cozy sweaters, knit vests, relaxed trousers, loafers, and sneakers worn with long socks and funky hats.

BRING BACK THE 90S

While Y2K fashion is not showing signs of slowing down yet (we know; it’s been around forever), there is a growing thirst for 90s minimalism. According to Trendalytics, searches for 90s-inspired fashion are up 90 percent year-on-year, slowly but surely ushering in an era of sophisticated fashion. In 2024, this hyper-feminine style will translate to slip dresses, multi-layered pearl strings, relaxed high-waist trousers, and sleek silhouettes.

PEEK-A-BOO

Fashion’s obsession with underwear is far from over. In fact, it is about to get a lot more risqué in 2024. Coming in hot on the heels of the 2023 hit trend of delicate lingerie-esque slip dresses and cami tops, 2024 will witness the return of the exposed bra. Delicate lingerie details like lace and ribbon trims will also be seen across tops, dresses, and skirts.

UNIFORM DRESSING

Coming in hot on the heels of ‘Quiet Luxury’ ‘Uniform Dressing’ is the art of curating high-quality wardrobe staples that can be worn repeatedly in a range of different and even unexpected ways. No, it’s nothing new. Yes, it will be talked about.

WHAT’S IN MY BAG?

It’s rude to ask a lady what she carries in her bag, they say. But are you allowed a peek if everything she’s carrying is on display? While we do not know the answer to that, the one thing we do know is that transparent bags- thanks to Coperni–will be in vogue this year.

STROLLING IN MARY JANES

Fashion’s obsession with ballet flats has evolved into one for Mary Janes. Sleek, glossy, flat Mary Jane sandals, teamed with a pair of socks, will be the cool girls’ go-to choice of footwear through 2024.

SPARKLE & SHINE

Molten metallic sculptural jewels, dramatic sizes, and vintage lockets (mostly heart-shaped) will dominate the dazzling jewelry universe in 2024. Chunky, spherical jewels–oversized earrings and neckpieces, to be precise–will also emerge as a critical jewelry trend in 2024. Adorable charms and lockets reminiscent of the Victorian era will also make and necklaces make a comeback.

Pro tip: keep an eye out for rose motifs.

SOCK IT UP

Socks are clearly having a moment, and they will continue to hog the spotlight through 2024. We are talking about long, thick, ribbed socks pulled up to your calves that would make the “no show” socks Millenials cringe. The most popular way to style them? With Mary Janes, ballet flats, and pointed-toe heels.

SOFT GIRL ERA

The soft girl aesthetic lies somewhere at the intersection of cottagecore, the clean girl aesthetic, and the viral coquette trend. Think all things delicate and feminine: soft, fluffy cotton, sheer fabrics, lace trims, bows, vintage-inspired heart lockets, charm bracelets, florals, and all things white and powder pink.
