With the New Year comes a new decade which means a slew of resolutions are bound to be broken. However, one that constantly fuels our wanderlust bug is travelling more and discovering new dreamy destinations.

But, when it comes to hunting for the best vacation spots across the globe and compiling our annual year-end lists, it can be overwhelming to narrow down where to go on vacation next.

Thankfully, Airbnb have composed a list of destinations that are ones to watch in the coming year and the result? There’s a growing interest in lesser known and eco-conscious cities and countries across the world based on Airbnb booking data.

“Ranging from post-industrial culture hubs like Milwaukee and Guadalajara to emerging destinations that are benefiting from an increase in sustainable tourism, this year’s list is full of surprises and hidden gems.”

Here are Airbnb’s top five trending destinations for 2020…

1. Milwaukee, WI, US

Next year, the city will see an increase in visitors as it is set to host 2020’s Democratic National Convention.
Not just that, but there are plenty of hidden gems scattered across the city including the Calatrava-designed art museum, Lake Michigan and a plethora of scenic bike lanes.

2. Bilbao, Spain

The Spanish city won the European City of the Year in 2018 and it’s no wonder that it made Airbnb’s top destination’s list for 2020.
The flourishing hub is home to the city’s Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum, a lively dining scene, breathtaking architecture and an unforgettable cityscape.

3. Buriram, Thailand

Buriram is a rural province that lies in the heart of Thailand and if you’re looking for a little adventure that promotes culture and history, make sure to check out the province’s best-known monument is the incredible Phanom Rung complex and the MotoGP motor racing event at the Chang International Circuit – set to take place next year.

4. Sunbury, Victoria, Australia

Northwest of Melbourne sits the beautiful suburb of Sunbury and if you’re a cricket fan, this place is for you. 
Next year, Sunbury will be hosting the ICC T20 World Cup and in addition to enjoying a little sports action, make sure to check out its wildlife, wineries and Victorian-era architecture.

5. Romania

If you’re looking for something off-the-beaten-track, Romania should be on your bucket lists. Surrounded by greenery, ancient rural villages and some of the best preserved forests in Europe, Romania is a great destination for nature lovers.
