The iconic St. Regis Rome celebrates a new era

The definition of refined European hospitality
With the holidays right around the corner, here's why we think you should book your next stay at the St. Regis Rome...

Rome is a true Italian escape. It’s a place where history, culture, luxury and fine gastronomy are at the core of the Italian capital.

Whilst the city is a favourite tourist destination with several wonders including the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Vatican City and the Spanish Steps, it’s also a place for a luxury holiday that you won’t soon forget.

The perfect example of this is the newly refurbished St. Regis Rome, nestled near Piazza della Repubblica and the Quirinale Presidential Palace.

The epitome of true luxury (the hotel was once called Le Grand Hotel), the 40 million Euro restoration of the St. Regis Rome hotel has resulted in a truly timeless structure that offers everything from comfort and service to fashion and art, design, architecture, history and culinary delights.

Welcoming guests to a completely new era conceptualised by renowned interior design firm Pierre-Yves Rochon, the St. Regis Rome opens its doors to a haven of timeless elegance where people from all corners of the world cross paths on the marble floors under the painted ceilings and amongst the regal interiors, mosaics, objets d’art and aristocratic patterns in the foyer.

The Marriott-owned hotel not only captures the ever-changing spirit of the city due to its prime location, but it also blends history and modernity throughout.

At the corner of the lobby sits a sapphire-blue Library, an intimate space that includes a curated treasury of books. It perfectly embodies the purpose of the hotel’s restoration and ethos as its modern glamour is adorned with historic-looking Venetian mirrors, black marble and Empire-style crystal chandeliers.

Up a historic elevator (that still works perfectly well, may we add) and after a short walk through a decadent hallway lays the perfect hotel room.

With ten different styles of rooms including five suites (St. Regis Suite, Astor Suite, Bottega Veneta Suite, Presidential Suite and Royal Suite), each room comes complete with high ceilings, lots of light, handmade glass and plenty of contemporary and antique artworks.

With its light blue pastel hues contrasting against white, gold and, of course, black marble, the rooms are infinitely calming oasis of relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the city outside.

During our stay at the newly refurbished hotel, Buro. Middle East was welcomed to the hotel’s richly-decorated Ritz Ballroom for an intimate dinner for guests from around the globe and the country’s elite.

The space, designed by Roman architect Giulio Podesti and richly decorated with a painting by Mario Spinetti, was transformed in six months by accomplished artisans and possesses a true Roman heritage with its mythological themes. In the centre of the ballroom’s ceiling, look up to see an intricate masterpiece made by Spinetti. Due to the restoration, the ceiling consists of gold ribs that create a diamond grid that frames a view of the sky, complete with floral motifs.

And speaking of collaborations, there are plenty more to witness inside the space.

For a very memorable and enriching stay, the St. Regis Rome has teamed up with fashion designer Giada Curti (who has transformed the hotel’s employees’ uniforms into a homage to the hotel), illustrator Gianluca Biscalchin (a Roman-born artist who adds his own spin to the new era with illustrations and symbols of Roman history that can be seen on the menu, toiletry bags, stationery and laundry bags), and Larusmiani (a brand that focuses on artisanship and fine tailoring that has set up a Gentlemen’s Corner where guests can experience unique and beautifully crafted pieces).

But that’s not all.

The St. Regis Rome embraced a new era of glamour by entering a new partnership with IF Unique Art Experience, a leading company that offers unique experiences through travel, culture and lifestyle.

The special projects support Rome’s artistic and cultural heritage and include discovering the evolution of a district, exploring Rome under a new light and experiencing aristocratic splendour.

The Octagonal Aula (one of the many remaining buildings of the majestic Diocletian Baths), part of the National Roman Museum, is located just minutes away from the St. Regis Rome and offers an immersive experience that highlights the evolution of the district dated back to the year 298 A.D. As part of the St. Regis Rome guestbook, you’ll also be able to witness Rome under a new light and discover four (usually inaccessible) places that will allow you to really embrace some of the oldest and most majestic places the city has to offer.

Oh, and of course, the hotel’s prime location is just the cherry on top as it’s located just a 15-minute walk from some of the city’s most well-known landmarks including the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum.
