APPLE ANNOUNCES A NEW GENERATION OF THE IPHONE

Apple’s next wave of tech
After months of speculation, the future line-up rumours of the Apple smartphones have been answered. Here's everything you need to know...

Apple’s end-of-summer event ‘Far Out’ is finally here, and the presentation brought some of the most exciting announcements from the tech giant including a line-up of the iPhone 14 devices.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

We’re guessing Apple thought of ‘the bigger, the better’ with the introduction of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in two new sizes – 6.1 and 6.7 inches – and we’re not complaining.

The sophisticated new design comes with an updated internal design for better performance which includes ground-breaking new technologies and impressive camera upgrades. Set to take your photos and videos to a whole new level, there’s a powerful camera system featuring new Main and front TrueDepth cameras, the Ultra Wide camera for unique perspectives, and Photonic Engine — an enhanced image pipeline that leaps in low-light performances. With a 49% improvement in lowlight captures, night mode is twice as fast, and autofocus on the front camera (think of how good your selfies will look?), your photo library will get a dramatic increase in quality.

There’s also the introduction of ‘Action mode’, so when in action, you’ll be able to achieve incredibly smooth-looking videos that adjusts to significant shakes, motion, and vibrations.

The iPhone 14 line-up also introduces an advanced battery life than ever before. Boasting the best battery life ever in an iPhone, both models will also deliver incredible performances for a longer period of time courtesy of A15 Bionic: a powerhouse with a 5-core GPU that enables even smoother graphics for video apps and high-performance gaming.

“Our customers rely on their iPhone every day, and iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus introduce ground-breaking new technologies and important safety capabilities. With the new, larger 6.7-inch display on iPhone 14 Plus, users can enjoy more content onscreen when browsing the web and even more text,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Both phones have a powerful new Main camera with a huge leap in low-light performance, advanced connectivity capabilities with 5G and eSIM, and the incredible performance of A15 Bionic, which helps enable even better battery life. All of this, tightly integrated with iOS 16, makes iPhone more essential than ever.”

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will be available in five stunning colours: midnight, blue, starlight, purple, and (PRODUCT)RED. Pre-orders begin September 9, with availability for iPhone 14 beginning September 16, and availability for iPhone 14 Plus beginning October 7.

The iPhone 14 will be priced at AED3,399 whilst the iPhone 14 Plus will be priced at AED3,799.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max

Apple has revealed the most advanced Pro line-up ever with two new additions to the 14 series. Also available in the same dimensions as the iPhone 14 (6.1 and 6.7 inches), the new Pro editions feature a stunning design and the most advanced display on a smartphone due to a new Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion that features the Always-On display for the first time ever on iPhone. So, what does Always-On mean? This will make the new Lock Screen even more useful, keeping the time, widgets, and Live Activities available at a glance.

Continuing to offer industry-leading durability features, the iPhone Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with an interactive user experience through ‘Dynamic Island’ featuring a design that blends the line between hardware and software. With the introduction of Dynamic Island, the TrueDepth camera has been redesigned to take up less of the display area and allow users easier access to controls with a simple tap-and-hold.

Pushing the boundaries of its Pro Camera System, the new devices will empower you to capture the best photos and video with Photonic Engine – a giant leap for mid-to low-light performance in photos offering up to 2x on the Main camera, up to 3x on the Ultra Wide camera, up to 2x on the Telephoto camera, and up to 2x on the TrueDepth camera. For the first time ever, the Pro line-up will also feature a new 48MP Main camera with a quad-pixel sensor that adapts to the photo being captured and features second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be available in four gorgeous new colours: space black, silver, gold, and deep purple.

The iPhone 14 Pro will be priced at AED4,299 whilst the iPhone 14 Pro Max will be priced at AED4,699.

Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via Satellite

Perhaps the biggest key takeaway from the entire iPhone 14 line-up is the introduction of groundbreaking safety capabilities including Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via Satellite.

Crash Detection on iPhone can now detect a severe car crash and automatically dial emergency services when a user is unconscious or unable to reach their iPhone. When a severe crash is detected, the emergency services call interface will appear on Apple Watch, as it is most likely to be in closer proximity to the user, while the call is placed through iPhone if it is in range for the best possible connection.

The impressive new feature, Emergency SOS via satellite, combines custom components deeply integrated with software to allow antennas to connect directly to a satellite, enabling messaging with emergency services when outside of cellular or Wi-Fi coverage (seriously, how cool?!). With Emergency SOS via satellite, the iPhone will showcase a few vital questions to assess the user’s situation and to make it easier, will show them where to point their phone to connect to a satellite.

This breakthrough technology also allows users to manually share their location over satellite with Find My when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi connection, providing a sense of security when hiking or camping off the grid. Emergency SOS via satellite will be available to users in the US and Canada in November, and the service will be free for two years.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be available for pre-order on September 9.
