Due to the global pandemic, Queen Elizabeth made a historic televised broadcast to address the COVID-19 outbreak.
“We, as children, spoke from here at Windsor to children who had been evacuated from their homes and sent away for their own safety,” she recalled as she spoke about the first broadcast she made with her sister, Princess Margaret, during World War II. “Today, once again, many will feel a painful sense of separation from their loved ones. But now, as then, we know deep down that it is the right thing to do.”
Now, the Queen is circulating the news headlines once again as she is currently expected to be absent from upcoming public duties.
The 94-year-old cancelled all travel plans in March and moved to Windsor Castle just prior to the official lockdown in the UK. With her absence from public duties (of which are now all cancelled), this marks the Queen’s longest absence in her nearly 68-year reign.
All of the major events the Queen was expected to attend (including Trooping the Colour and Royal Ascot) have also been cancelled due to the country’s safety restrictions.
