Today marks the beginning of this year’s Girl Up Global Leadership Summit by the United Nations, and there is plenty up on offer during the three-day event.

With an overall theme titled “We Need to Talk”, the 2020 annual Girl Up Summit will feature a plethora of expert-led workshops, performances, panel discussions, speeches and active sessions, driven by a host of celebrities, global leaders, changemakers, movers and shakers.

Centered around the aim of “connecting the global movement for gender equality”, the virtual event is divided into six sections including advocacy, fundraising, organising, storytelling, Stem for Social Good and Taking Action with Girl Up, and will see Meghan Markle and Michelle Obama (all figures who have always stood for gender equality) come together. Whilst Markle will serve as the keynote speaker, Obama will be sharing a special message during the event.

The Duchess of Sussex and former First Lady are just amongst the diverse cast of presenters as the roster also includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Steph Curry, Yara Shahidi, Nadia Murad (2018 Nobel Peace Laureate) and many more.

Girl Up intends to champion young girls and guide them throughout their journey. “We’re a movement to advance girls’ skills, rights, and opportunities to be leaders. When girls rise, we all rise.”

The Girl Up Global Leadership Summit will take place from July 13-15. Tune in below…
