Pierpaolo Piccioli returns to house codes for Valentino’s Spring/Summer ’21 collection

Valentino closed Milan Fashion Week with a live show that consisted of a collection that saw reimagined codes of the house...

Whatever Pierpaolo Piccioli touches, instantly turns to gold. The Italian fashion designer emerged from lockdown stronger than ever and delivered a collection during Milan Fashion Week that mirrored a perspective that is very much a sign of the times.

2020 has been a year of challenges (to say the least) and we’re in dire need of change. Piccioli took this as inspiration and used his personal point of view to reinterpret the codes of the maison — one being romanticism.

For Valentino’s coed Spring/Summer ’21 collection, key codes were present — think flowers, lace and ruches — however Piccioli reinterpreted romanticism as freedom, diversity and individualism, immediately seen in silhouettes delivered on the runway.

Men and women were spotted wearing chiffon blouses, distressed jeans, mini-tunics, urban short shorts, longer dresses and exaggerated sleeves. In true Valentino form, the finale included a series of colourful tulle gowns and cape dresses. During the show, Valentino also debuted a surprise collaboration with Levi’s.
