After Schiaparelli, Iris van Herpen, Georges Hobeika, Christian Dior, Ralph & Russo and Giambattista Valli showcased their newest couture collections on day two of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, it was time for a new round-up of designers the next day.
Overnight, we spotted Karl Lagerfeld take over the Grand Palais for Chanel‘s new couture show, then came a celebrity-favourite designer showcasing his new collection, plus a Lebanese designer dominate day three. Take a look at some of their best runway looks here…
Chanel
What you need to know: Every couture calendar, everyone eagerly waits to see how Karl Lagerfeld will stage his next show. We’ve seen a spaceship, a waterfall and an Eiffel tower setup in previous shows and for this season, he opted to create the streets of Paris. Models walked the runway in beautiful ensembles that featured the maison’s iconic tweeds, feathers and zipper motifs, along with rich embroidery and jewelled pieces.
Historical moment: After every show, Karl Lagerfeld takes a bow with a new model in hand and we’ve previously seen Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne strut down with him. But this season, King Karl handpicked Adut Akech Bior, a Sudanese model who opened the last Chanel cruise show. This marks the second time an African model has closed a Chanel Haute Couture show following in British-Sudanese model, Alek Wek’s footsteps.
Stephane Rolland
What you need to know: Earlier this year, we spotted one of Stephane Rolland’s pieces on Beyoncé and the voluminous silhouette seemed to be a reoccurring theme for his new Fall/Winter ’18 couture range. A certain cohesiveness took over the designer’s new collection as lighter, more fluid fabric constructions were modelled on the runway. Let’s not forget about the calming colour palette of camel brown, white and hints of deep rose.
Wish-list worthy: You can never go wrong with a bedazzled white dress that comes complete with a cape, too.
Georges Chakra
What you need to know: Georges Chakra sent beautiful pairings down the runway this season. There were powerful, strong and feminine cuts that grabbed the attention of the front-row with the designer’s very detailed finishings, use of tulle, embellishments and exaggerated fabrics. In a palette that almost remained just black and white, Chakra added monochrome dresses in red to showcase “Queens in power”.
Middle Eastern designer: Georges Chakra is a Lebanese fashion designer. Based in Beirut, the designer has become a real contender on the fashion week calendar.
Giorgio Armani Privé
What you need to know: This season, the Italian designer took over the Italian embassy for his latest couture show. Sending models down the runway in beautifully-made silk gowns, ruffled tulle jackets, velvet suits, voluminous skirts made of feathers and really put-together looks, the collection screamed red carpet-worthy and cocktail dinner ready.
Accessories on point: It wasn’t only the couture creations that stole the spotlight at the Giorgio Armani Privé show — it was the accessories too. We spotted headpieces made from chiffon, costume jewellery and pearls and dangling earrings in pops of colour.
Alexandre Vauthier
What you need to know: A super Parisian motif dominated Alexandre Vauthier’s runway show last night. The glamour and chicness of the collection were made up of asymmetrical dresses, broad shoulder dresses, trousers tucked into boots, crisp and clean jackets and jacket gowns that came complete with wide belts in black or gold.
Footwear spotlight: The designer worked with shoe designer Amina Muaddi to rework the typical thigh-high boot and created a range that you could style high or low, and pull the boot up or down, almost like a pant. These came in either leather toecaps, silk, python and even a tiger stripe motif.
