Burberry aims to be totally plastic-free by 2025

Lots more eco-friendly options
By 2025 Burberry wants to be completely plastic-free. And that means rethinking its packaging on every level...

Since Burberry’s product scandal, the company has been making all the right moves to salvage its image.

And the current drive towards a more conscious fashion industry, many luxury fashion brands have revealed their strategies for the next five years or so. You’ve got Victoria Beckham banning all exotic skins soon as is Chanel (skins AND furs) and Jean Paul Gaultier is considering going fur-free, too.

It looks like everyone is slowly jumping on the bandwagon. And now, Burberry have announced that by 2025 they want to be plastic-free.

According to WWD, Burberry has said that all of its plastic packaging will either be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. And they are well on their way to achieving that already because the company has eliminated plastic lamination from its retail bags and poly bags for garment covers – that alone has reduced the use of plastic by, wait for it, 29 tons!

As with all five-year plans, it’s going to take incremental steps to get to the end goal. By the end of this year, the luxury brand plans to replace all current hangers, shrouds and poly bags with an eco-friendly option. It will also launch a hanger take-back program that will see discarded retail hangers recycled and reused. Excellent initiatives.
