Last night, some of the world’s most beautiful women took to the runway for the 2018 edition of the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. With a stellar line-up of musical acts and a superstar roster of models, this year’s catwalk took place in New York after a two-year stint overseas. And it was a particular momentous evening for one Angel in particular.
Adriana Lima is synonymous with Victoria’s Secret, however the Brazilian bombshell announced her retirement after 19 years last night. Overwhelmed with emotion, Lima cried during her final walk down the runway, complete with plenty of her signature ‘Lima points’ to the crowd.
The brand also dedicated an entire segment to the Angel, showing a montage of all of her walks from previous years. She took her first spin down the runway in 1999, was made an Angel in 2000 and only ever missed one show in her almost two-decade long tenure. Famously, she walked the show in 2012 just five weeks after giving birth looking as good as ever.
Speaking with People ahead of the runway about her plans post-VS, she explained, “I’m looking forward to supporting women and being connected to different projects which support women around the world. [That’s] my future from now on, but I am still happy that I am part of Victoria’s Secret this year.”
Last year, fellow Brazilian bombshell Alessandra Ambrosio retired her wings after 17 years with the brand.
Next year’s catwalk will certainly be a little less shiny without this veteran Angel.
