Prada's latest assignment will take its refined craftsmanship beyond Earth.

Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that Prada would one day design spacesuits, but it is, in fact, happening. Prada is, quite literally, shooting for the moon. In an unexpected collaboration between the Italian luxury house and commercial space company Axiom Space, Prada has been appointed as the official designer of NASA’s lunar spacesuits for the Artemis III mission.

Scheduled for 2025, the Artemis III mission marks a significant milestone as the first crewed lunar landing since the Apollo 17 mission in December 1972. The space mission will also be the first time a woman steps foot on the lunar surface. In the fashion world, the Artemis III mission will go down in history for taking Prada’s fine craftsmanship to the moon.

“The constantly forward-thinking ethos of Prada for humanity has broadened to his desire of adventure and to brave new horizons: space,” said Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada Group Marketing Director. “We are honored to be a part of this historic mission with Axiom Space.

Central to this mission’s success is the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) spacesuit, which will be designed by Prada and Axiom Space. As a part of the collaboration, Prada’s engineers will work with the Axiom Space team, developing solutions for materials and design features to equip astronauts to tackle the unique challenges in space and the lunar environment.

The AxEMU spacesuit will offer advanced capabilities for space exploration while providing NASA with commercially developed human systems vital for lunar access, habitation, and work. Evolving NASA’s Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU) spacesuit design, Axiom Space’s creation promises increased flexibility, superior protection against the harsh lunar environment, and specialized tools tailored for exploration and scientific endeavors. These innovative spacesuits are set to open up greater possibilities for lunar exploration.
