There’s been a need for inclusivity and diversity in the luxury fashion industry and slowly (but surely), more and more brands are starting to expand their offerings, including Mary Katrantzou.
The eponymous label have just announced that it will be introducing a new size-inclusive range of swimwear, titled Mary Mare.
Set to be introduced all year-round, alongside her main collection, the new range will feature the brand’s signature vibrant colours and prints — elements that echo what the Greek designer is renowned for.
The Mary Mare collection will cater to women of all sizes (up to a size UK 24), and according to WWD, is “the first opportunity to explore a much wider size range so we have easy silhouettes and fabrics”.
The designer then went on to say, “Prints and colours are so connected to being by the beach and travelling and being on holiday. I cannot believe I have not done a swim collection in 10 years.”
The colours and prints feature several postcards from beach locations across the globe including Sicily, Italy; Greece, and the South of France, as well as prints of sea shells splashed all over bikinis and swimsuits.
“The idea is that each print can stand alone, and we kept it all quite tight graphically. As for the postcard story, it’s very nostalgic and reminds you of places that you’ve been.”
Looks like we know where we’ll be shopping for our next summer getaway. However, we’ll have to wait until April 2020 to shop Mary Katrantzou’s swimwear pieces.
Now, take a look at how Nike channelled diversity with their displays earlier this year.
