Who is Hellène? That is the question everybody has been asking since Beirut-based designer Hussein Bazaza begun teasing the release of his S/S ’19 collection a few days ago. Well, now the wait is finally over with the designer finally unveiling his latest muse.
According to the brand, “Hellène is a woman who lived her entire life seeking the ultimate perfection. She owned a hotel where she welcomed guests only to admire their beauty and steal the parts that she liked the most to create the perfect version of herself in her little lab. The result was a monster that ended up destroying her. The idea here is to tackle the illusion of perfection that we all try so hard to achieve not realising how self-destructive it is on all levels.” As a result of her ways, “Hellene is now stuck in a garden between right and wrong waiting for her judgement day.”
Speaking with Buro. Middle East exclusively about the message behind the collection, Hussein explained, “The message that perfection is self-destructive in the fashion industry is important to deliver. The fashion world has gone too far, to the extremes of exaggeration to the point where it has become a concept of shallowness.” He added that “Hellène’s story proves that everything will disappear and fade in the end; what we leave behind, the essence of our souls, is what matters most.”
The collection is made with rich fabrics including feathers, sequins, satin, denim, chiffon and embroideries, and features a new version of the brand’s lace collage couture piece. With a palette consisting of bright tones and plenty of colour-blocking, the collection’s key silhouettes include pleated skirts, gowns and cropped tops.
