Gucci launches Changemakers program to further diversity

In a new move to promote unity and change in the industry, Gucci is doing all the right things right now...

In the woke world that we’re living, it’s imperative for fashion brand’s to chime in on the collective conversation for greater diversity and unity in the industry. And after coming under fire for a controversial balaclava sweater, Gucci is making the right amends to circumvent further backlash. Although it’s not to say the luxury fashion house is anything less than hot right now – it is after all the IT-brand according to Lyst and they’re also introducing a talent scholarship in Dubai in the name of inclusion and awareness.  

And now, there’s more. The house has revealed that they’re starting a USD$5 million Changemakers fund that will invest in non-profits and community-based programs to support “the African-American community and communities of colour at-large.”

They announced it on the brand’s Instagram account…


Dapper Dan, who collaborated with Gucci on a capsule collection last year, condoned the move on Instagram stating, “Black designers and fashion professionals will be given new opportunities through these new initiatives. It is imperative that we have opportunities to learn on a world-class level, and also have a seat at the table to say how we should be represented,” he wrote in a note. “Through our work together, Gucci is in a position to steer the overall industry toward becoming a better, more inclusive one. This does not end with Gucci, it begins with Gucci.”
