You’ve probably seen Marine Serre‘s recognisable emblem everywhere. The moon crescent — usually printed on everything from slick tops, skin-tight leggings and dresses — has become a celebrity-favourite too with personalities such as Beyoncé and Dua Lipa rocking the athleisure.
Now, you can get your hands on your very own exclusive pieces courtesy of a collaboration with Mytheresa. Consisting of 28 pieces, the collection is broken down into two themes: one that is strongly inspired by activewear and the other, made up of iconic upcycled silhouettes — with the signature Marine Serre moons featured throughout the collection.
In an exclusive Q&A with the French fashion designer, we discover more about the capsule collection and what “Futurewear” stands for…
What is the idea behind the exclusive capsule collection that you created for Mytheresa?
The idea was to work around the cornerstone styles of the brand. The capsule is divided in two stories defined by colours and materials. The first story is composed by activewear jersey items which includes cyclist hybridized with all over-moon (AOM) leggings, body-con catsuit featuring sporty cuts in contrast with the iconic AOM, a set of jersey tops and a cyclist catsuit with a trompe l’oeil effect in AOM. For the most attentive, playing with layering and illusive second-skin garments have been part of the core identity of the brand when it comes to open front and open back details. We chose the AOM colour combination to have a large representation of different skin tones.
In the second story, the colour palette shifts from icy to deep blues applied on iconic silhouettes, such as the hybrid all-in-one jersey catsuit layered with bias-cut regenerated silk scarves, follows the regenerated bedsheets dress in multi-cuts, and our iconic leather pants, realized in white deadstock cuir with engraved moon, created especially for Mytheresa.
“It was important for us to represent the upcycling work in the capsule along with the idea of having a total daily look in Marine Serre, enriching the offering with the shoes – designed in collaboration with Jimmy Choo – that could fit the activewear and the comfort of these garments.”
“We felt to include all the most iconic pieces of the brand without forgetting a total look made of iconic moire, (jacket and skirt); the tailored jacket is meticulously shaped with jersey inserted on the petit côté to allow plenty of movement, even if the fit is very tight to the body. The look is then matched with the wrap miniskirt hybridizes with cyclist jersey shorts, a concept that once again, allows plenty of movement. Both feature a multi-pocketing placement, a detail that elevates the attitude of the one wearing it, and the practicality of the garments.”
You have been talking about ”Futurewear ‘ since your very first collections, what does it mean, and what does it stand for?
Garments for the future do not mean futuristic but respond to our daily life needs and seeing fashion as service and not separated from the rest of the world.
Is this capsule collection with Mytheresa inspired by your vision of the future?
Of course, when we created the capsule for Mytheresa we are thinking about what the need is today and indeed we have a lot of activewear because we have spent so much time at home since a year, so of course it is going to influence the creation.
