Celebrities are already wearing Pantone’s Colour of 2022

Very Peri
Pantone has revealed the shade that will best encapsulate 2022...

Throughout the year, with some sort of return to normalcy, star-studded events (think movie premieres, award shows and galas) took place with plenty of celebrities making their style statement on the red carpet – of which, only a handful of looks remained in our style handbook. Coincidentally, they all held a common factor: the looks featured a dark blue-purple hue that little did we know would be Pantone‘s choice of Colour of the Year for 2022.

Dubbed as Very Peri, the colour is described as a “dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet-red undertone,” which blends “the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red”.

A plethora of A-listers already adopted the hue in their sartorial choices. We saw it first during the Presidential Inauguration in January after Vice President Kamala Harris wore a custom Christopher John Rogers coat and dress in, now-known as, Very Peri. The hue was also seen on Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy, Lady Gaga, Camila Cabello and more.

“The Pantone Colour of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that colour can hope to answer,” says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute. “Creating a new colour for the first time in the history of our PANTONE Colour of the Year educational colour program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. As society continues to recognize colour as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us.”
