Women in Saudi Arabia have been given multiple opportunities to rejoice following the streak of good news coming out of the Kingdom, like allowing women to work from home, drive cars, motorcycles, trucks and become Careem drivers.
Now, the list of groundbreaking reforms continues to grow following the announcement that Saudi Arabia will allow women to join the military.
The news emerged overnight (just days after the Kingdom announced how it will celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2018) and will see females given greater access to different roles and responsibilities in the military including investigating crimes, regulating traffic, issuing driving permits and protecting mosque visitors.
Saudi’s Directorate of Public Security has announced that they will accept females across several cities, including Riyadh, Madinah, Makkah Qassim and Asir, however certain rules apply to hopefuls.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, applicants must be of Saudi origin, raised in the Kingdom (the only exception is if a woman’s father lived abroad with a government role), aged between 25 and 35, be above 155 centimetres tall, and have at least a high school diploma.
