Kristen Stewart has had a stellar roster of films that she’s starred in such as the reboot of Charlie’s Angels and the Twilight series, but now, she’s in for a project a little more royal.
The American actress has just been announced to play Princess Diana in the upcoming movie.
Set in the early ’90s, the biographical drama — titled Spencer — will cover a critical weekend when the late royal comes to the decision to divorce Prince Charles.
Spencer will be directed by Pablo Larraín (the man behind 2016’s Jackie), and production will reportedly start in early 2021.
“Diana is such a powerful icon, where millions and millions of people, not just women, but many people around the world felt empathy toward her in her life,” Larraín told Deadline. “We decided to get into a story about identity, and around how a woman decides somehow, not to be the queen. She’s a woman who, in the journey of the movie, decides and realizes that she wants to be the woman she was before she met Charles.”
