At Buro247 Middle East, we are committed to showcasing and celebrating the extraordinary talent in the Arab world. With our column, #BuroSpotlights, we bring you stories of pioneering artists, innovative designers, tech trailblazers, cinematic visionaries, sports stars, and more.
This week, #BuroSpotlights polymathic artist Samar Younes.
Beirut-born Samar Younes is a creative visionary who makes use of multiple mediums to bring her artwork to life. The genius behind Samaritual, a NYC-based creative atelier, the artist is reshaping the landscape of art and design, all while building a cultural narrative. With a background spanning architecture, visual communication, and decades in artistic direction, Younes blends several artistic mediums, including generative AI, to create hyper-realistic high fashion images. As much as your eyes would want you to believe otherwise, the people in Younes’ work are not real.
Younes’ work sits at the intersection of art, fashion, and architecture, intertwining themes of humanity, planet, and technology. Central to her work is the idea of restoring Eastern visual storytelling methods by challenging historical appropriations by the West. Building modern cultural narratives through her work, Younes dismantles stereotypes and fosters a cross-cultural dialogue, all while advocating for wellbeing.
Younes’ work is a result of her personal artificial intelligence blended with generative AI technology. By exploring the brain’s aesthetic responses, her work explores the transformative impact of art and design on wellbeing.
