A MASCARA HACK EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT

Whether you're opting for a smoky eye look or the ultimate cat tail, the way you apply mascara can completely change your makeup. Here are the secrets to wielding the wand like a pro...

Make your eyes look intense and smoky

It’s better to move the wand back and forth to the side of the lash line and down the centre of the lashes, rather than running it up through the lashes. Do not run the wand through the tips of the lashes, because the point is not to lengthen the lashes, but to intensify them. If you use an extremely dark, carbon black mascara, it will give your eyes a beautiful frame, especially if you have blue or green eyes.

The cat eye is a cool look

To achieve a classic cat eye look, simply wave the wand almost horizontally – sideways, not upward – through your lashes. Volumizing mascaras tend to be more moisturizing, so they hold lashes in place better once they dry. Intensifying mascaras are not as good for length, but they are great for creating shapes with your lashes.

Make false lashes look real

Finally, apply one or two coats of volumizing mascara – but only to the outer, upper lashes, as this will add incredible density and give your eyes an extra oomph.

Enlarge your eye

The centre of the eye needs to be highlighted. To open up your eyes, apply a volumizing mascara just above the iris in the centre of your lashes – but hold the wand vertically so it coats, thickens, and highlights the middle lashes.

Make sure your lashes are healthy

Castor oil is available at any drugstore. Apply it with a cotton swab and leave it on overnight. An eyelash serum can lengthen the lashes, but not necessarily thicken them, and most women prefer those thick, intense lashes. An oil-based makeup remover is also good for cleansing and conditioning lashes.
