The most important night in the fashion industry took place earlier this morning, always drawing an impressive cohort of celebrities and fashion folks to the red carpet, in some pretty impressive ensembles. And at this year’s Met Gala, since the exhibition theme was Camp: Notes on Fashion, we knew there was room for creativity – not through their sartorial choices but beauty looks, too.
This year, celebrities truly extended their creativity to hair, makeup looks and even, nails for the occasion – making for all, a beauty spectacle. Take a look at our round-up of the best hair and makeup looks from the 2019 Met Gala…
Gigi Hadid
It’s no doubt that Gigi Hadid always slays on the red carpet (runways, included) but earlier this morning, she was winning in the beauty department too. The international model channelled ice queen with her custom-catsuit designed by Michael Kors and whilst yes, the outfit consisted of metallics and feathers; the all-white everything look didn’t just stop with the outfit.
On the red carpet, the Palestinian-Dutch model followed in the footsteps of Lady Gaga’s extreme lashes as she fronted long white lashes on both her top and bottom lash lines, courtesy of Erin Parsons using Maybelline. She then paired the ornate makeup look with a nude lip shade.
Karen Elson
The English supermodel/singer-songwriter nailed this year’s beauty look as she looked like a bronzed goddess on the red carpet. In a sequinned custom creation by Proenza Schouler, Elson took a subtle, yet bold statement to her eyes as her lids were adorned with gold metallic hues and shimmer dust by Pat McGraths Lab.
Dakota Johnson
The actress was pretty in pink at the 2019 Met Gala. Proving that you can still remain simple and make a statement, Johnson contrasted her hot pink eyeshadow shade with minimal products on her face. She then completed her over all look with soft tousles created by Johnnie Sapong using Leonor Greyl, and her locks were then complimented by the silver crown-headband dressed up.
Yara Shahidi
The actress stood out on the carpet as she wore crystal eye makeup in the shape of her astrological sign to the Met Gala. Yep, makeup artist Emily Cheng reimagined Yara’s star sign symbol, Aquarius, with crystals framing her left eye. As for her hair, it stood out with a curly, high pompadour.
Lupita Nyong’o
There’s no doubt that Lupita was a major winner of the night. The award-winning actress had a high afro (done by Vernon Francois using Vernon Francois and Dyson) decorated with golden picks. On the makeup front, Nick Barose used Lashify and Lancome to create a colourful cut crease, glitter eye look with bold, black lacquer lips.
Also, another winner on the beauty front was Lady Gaga. Find out how to achieve her beauty look next.
