Although Anok Yai might be relatively new to the world of modelling, she’s certainly made a splash already. Case in point: she was the first black model to open Prada’s show during Milan Fashion Week in February in 20 years. The only other black model to do so was Naomi Campbell in 1998.
Now, the stunning 20 year old, who was born in Egypt and raised in America, has landed herself a brand new role as an ambassador for beauty brand Estée Lauder.
Speaking of her appointment, the model said, “To be a woman of colour representing an iconic brand that has continuously been at the forefront of beauty, is an honour. I hope to be an inspiration to young girls and women and encourage them to feel undeniably beautiful.”
Yai’s appointment is the latest move from the beauty brand to be more inclusive – just last week it announced that it was expanding its Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup range from 42 shades to a huge 56. She joins the brand’s diverse lineup of ambassadors that includes Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss, Misty Copeland, Fei Fei Sun and Joan Smalls.
