Beyoncé made us all tap into our inner child last year as she voiced Nala in a re-make of the all-time animated classic, The Lion King.
Then, she dropped a soundtrack album to the film, titled The Lion King: The Gift and now, Queen Bey has surprised us all with a new visual album inspired by the music released last year in conjunction with the Disney pic, and it’s coming to the Disney + streaming service next month (yay!).
Titled Black Is King, the new album is written, directed and executive produced by Beyoncé and will feature special guest appearances and artists including Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, 070 Shake, Tierra Whack, Jay-Z, Blue Ivy Carter and Jessie Reyez, as well as African artists including Wizkid, Shatta Wale, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Busiswa and Salatiel.
According to Variety, the Black is King film is “a story for the ages that informs and rebuilds the present. A reunion of cultures and shared generational beliefs. A story of how the people left most broken have an extraordinary gift and a purposeful future.”
The one-minute teaser trailer for Black Is King dropped over the weekend on beyonce.com, and will premiere globally on Disney + on July 31, 2020 — just after the one-year anniversary of the theatrical release of Disney’s The Lion King remake.
