Karl Lagerfeld has been in the headlines of late, and not necessarily for the best of reasons. He didn’t turn up to Chanel’s Haute Couture show in Paris last month to quite a bit of speculation as to his health. But we did come to know he’s been worn out. And to be fair, the man deserves some downtime after serving the fashion industry for over five decades…
Now, King Karl has appointed long-time friend and fashion editor Carine Roitfeld as a collaborator for his eponymous brand.
It’s going to start off in September when the duo will unveil ‘The Edit by Carine Roitfeld’ which will be comprised of a selection of Roitfeld’s essential mix and match pieces from Lagerfeld’s A/W ’19 collection.
This is not the first time the pair have joined creative forces. They have previously teamed up on a series of styling and image-led projects over the years, including The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited in 2012.
In a statement announcing the news, Lagerfeld said, “[Roitfeld] knows what she wants; she has a vision and she states her vision. She is actually what she seems to be; she matches her image, she fits in her universe, and she is a perfect match for KL.”
And the feeling is mutual as Roitfeld has said that “[Lagerfeld] is one of the smartest, most inventive and innovative people I have ever known.”
Waiting for this magic to happen…
