Looking to inject your Instagram scrolling with a little more culture? The New York Public Library has you covered...

It’s a well-established fact that many (ok, most) of us spend huge amounts of time on social media — Instagram, in particular. Whether scrolling through our feeds, watching IGTV or shopping via Stories, there’s no shortage of things to do on the app and now, one account is fusing the physical with the digital like never before.

The New York Public Library (whose Insta handle is @nypl) has just begun a series on its Instagram Stories whereby it is publishing an entire literary classic for anyone to read. In addition to the full text, there is also animations and illustrations. The first book in the series is Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, with Kafka’s Metamorphosis and Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper to follow in the coming months.

Given Instagram Stories’ 24-hour time limit, the books will be added to the Library’s highlights section, or the “digital bookshelf” as the Library has dubbed it, so that you can read the books at any time.

Looks like our time spent on the app is about to increase tenfold…
