every year, the most anticipated day on the racing calendar (and perhaps one of the biggest social events of the entire year) lands on our shores every March and now, we’re just two days away from the equestrian event. Known as the richest horse race in the world, the 2018 Dubai World Cup is billed to be even bigger and better this year.
Set to take place on March 31, the 23rd edition will gather the city’s race enthusiasts for an action-packed schedule. Plus, the day boasts a staggering prize pool of over Dhs1.1 million with the main event worth Dhs36 million. Here are the main things you need to know…
When and where
The race usually falls on the last Saturday in March every year, so this year it falls on the last day of the month. Over 60,000 spectators can view the anticipated races at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai.
What to wear
Ladies, dust off your hats and gentleman, polish your finest shoes, as the dress code is here is all about bringing your best.
Every year, the event also features the Style Stakes, which have become almost as famous as the races themselves. The competition will see men, women and couples all compete to get their hands on some of the many prizes on offer.
Time
The races officially begin at 3:45 pm, however, gates are open to the public at 12 pm. There will be a total of nine races so you expect the event to run throughout the afternoon and end around 9:30 pm.
Tickets
Tickets are available for purchase online at www.dubaiworldcup.com, and prices range from Dhs40 for General Admission to Dhs600 for Apron Views. However, the race will also be shown on the Dubai Racing Channel if you’d rather watch from the comfort of your own home.
After-party
Every year, a celebrity jet-sets to the city to headline the Dubai World Cup. Last year it was Sia, who performed after Janet Jackson in 2016. This year, however, there will be no concert. Instead, the public can enjoy a sparkling display of fireworks and music from a live band, whereas Apron Views ticket holders will get free entry at Soho Garden DXB and White (US rapper Flo Rida is set to take the stage at White later that evening).
