Ramadan is a holy month and a time to detoxify the body and reset the system for better habits. For many women, this time also coincides with their menstrual cycle, which raises the question of how fasting and changes in routine can affect hormonal balance and menstrual health.

THE OVERLAP BETWEEN RAMADAN AND THE MENSTRUAL CYCLE:

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and abstain from eating, drinking and other activities. For women who are menstruating, fasting can lead to changes in their daily routine, diet, water balance and physical activity. These factors, as well as possible fluctuations in hormone levels, can affect the menstrual cycle in various ways.

UNDERSTAND THE POSSIBLE EFFECTS:

MAINTAINING A HEALTHY MENSTRUAL CYCLE DURING RAMADAN:

Although doing Ramadan and menstruating at the same time can be challenging, there are some strategies that can help you maintain a healthy menstrual cycle and hormonal balance:

1- Despite fasting, it’s important to stay hydrated outside of the fasting period. Adequate hydration supports overall health, including menstrual function.

2- Opt for nutrient-rich foods at pre-dawn and evening meals to ensure adequate intake of essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

3- Use relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation or gentle exercise, to reduce stress levels that can impact hormonal health.

4- Pay attention to changes in menstrual symptoms or cycle patterns and consult a doctor if you have concerns or persistent problems.

5-Make sure you get enough restful sleep each night to support hormone regulation and overall well-being.
