While some might find it daunting to even walk in a pair of sharp-heeled stilettos, Christian Louboutin just proved that its red-soled creations are fit for a swim. Yes, you read that right. Amidst all the heavily talked about runway shows at Paris Fashion Week, Louboutin has found a unique way to present his fresh range of covetable footwear. Often going off-script when showcasing his collections, Louboutin has gained a reputation for theatrical presentations. He has consistently defied conventional expectations, and his latest stint was no different.
Christian Louboutin made a splash—literally—at Paris Fashion Week with a presentation for the history books. Teaming up with photographer David LaChapelle and France’s national synchronized swimming team, Louboutin made history by dipping his red-soled footwear in water. Held at the iconic Piscine Molitor, the event featured 15 artistic swimmers and 14 dancers, all moving to a live musical performance while showcasing Louboutin’s Spring 2025 collection.
The highlight of the show? The swimmers performed in Louboutin’s striking ‘Miss Z’ pumps, designed to withstand the underwater spectacle. Known for his penchant for drama, Louboutin fused his passion for synchronized swimming with a retro-Hollywood vibe. LaChapelle, who served as the artistic director, helped create a visual feast with Fifi Chachnilswimsuits, Vidal Sassoon-inspired hair, and Biba-style makeup, lending a nostalgic yet edgy feel to the presentation.
Choreographer Blanca Li orchestrated the complex routines, ensuring the swimmers exuded elegance and energy despite the challenge of performing in heels. Having long dreamed of choreographing in water, Li brought her vision to life with routines that blended athletic precision and high fashion. The result was a show that transformed the runway into an aquatic stage, proving that even underwater, Louboutin knows how to deliver a theatrical masterpiece.
