WHAT ARE THE DOS AND DON’TS OF FILLERS?
Dr. Karim Sayed: Do´s: Understand aging; treat accordingly. Understand beauty, beautification, femininity vs. masculinity, and the complexities of facial anatomy.
Donts: Overfill, treat the wrong anatomical layers, use products that are not premium (it’s a jungle out there).
HOW DO YOU MANAGE PATIENT EXPECTATIONS REGARDING THE DURATION AND OUTCOME OF TREATMENTS?
Dr. Karim Sayed: Fantastic question! Managing expectations is one of the most important parts of the job. Social media and reinforcement loops can lead to unrealistic expectations and unhappiness about how we look. We have to steer away from focusing on each wrinkle and line, step back, and think: what do we want to achieve? It’s about confidence, feeling comfortable in our own skin, feeling healthy and well-rested, not removing every little line. Outcomes like “I feel more confident when I’m in a room of people that I don’t know” are extremely powerful. That’s what we are looking for!
WHAT CHANGES OR ADVANCEMENTS DO YOU FORESEE IN THE FIELD OF AESTHETIC MEDICINE IN THE COMING YEARS?
Dr. Karim Sayed: The pipeline is absolutely incredible. We are already seeing a shift in the direction of biostimulators and regenerative medicine. New generations of toxins and fillers will further improve outcomes. We will have injectables that replenish collagen and elastin in the skin, preventing and delaying aging in an even more effective manner. We have only seen the beginning of this incredible field of medicine.
WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST MYTHS AROUND BOTOX AND FILLERS?
Dr. Karim Sayed: There are so many. Here are a few:
Botox is a poison and is dangerous: Botox is an extremely safe treatment; it has been FDA approved for over 20 years now, and we have huge amounts of data.
Botox freezes your face: No, a good treatment gives a natural outcome and allows you to keep your expressivity.
You get addicted to Botox: No, if you stop, you will enjoy the benefits from the period where your skin rested; studies show long-term benefits.
Fillers: Fillers make you look unnatural. No, a good treatment is “invisible.” It lifts and re-volumizes; it can enhance and also transform.
Fillers last for years: Actually, this is partly true, but when placed correctly, they are broken down by our own enzymes. Again, this requires knowledge and skill by the practitioner.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR APPROACH TO MODERN BEAUTY?
Dr. Halah Taha: My approach to contemporary beauty centers around the core values of diversity and individuality. I firmly believe that authentic beauty transcends societal norms, encompassing a spectrum of shapes, sizes, colors, and ages. Embracing the concept of clean, minimalist, and sustainable beauty practices, I seek to enhance and celebrate everyone’s unique features. Modern beauty, to me, embodies sincerity, confidence, and inclusivity, challenging traditional standards and embracing the inherent beauty in imperfections. My aesthetic inclination gravitates towards a modern beauty that exudes effortless, timeless elegance while encouraging self-expression. Ultimately, my goal is to champion an inclusive and empowering perspective on beauty.
WHAT STEPS DO YOU TAKE TO UNDERSTAND A PATIENT’S GOALS AND CONCERNS BEFORE RECOMMENDING A PROCEDURE?
Dr. Halah Taha: At Ouronyx, understanding our patients’ goals and concerns is paramount to providing personalized care. We employ a comprehensive questionnaire that delves into their aspirations, expectations, fears, and overall health. This meticulous approach enables me to gain invaluable insights into each patient’s unique needs, allowing me to tailor my recommendations accordingly. By prioritizing this understanding, we ensure a patient-centric approach that addresses individual concerns and aligns with their desired outcomes.
COULD YOU PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE OF HOW YOU PERSONALIZE TREATMENTS FOR PATIENTS?
Dr. Halah Taha: Certainly. Consider a scenario where a patient requires skincare treatment. After reviewing their questionnaire, I discover the patient has sensitive skin and a preference for natural products. To personalize the therapy, I engage in a detailed conversation to understand specific sensitivities and past experiences. Subsequently, I curate a skincare regimen featuring gentle, organic ingredients known for their soothing effects. By avoiding harsh chemicals and incorporating specialized facials, I cater to delicate skin needs. Additionally, I offer lifestyle advice and preventative measures to minimize sensitivity, considering treatment frequency and severity. This example illustrates my commitment to tailoring treatments based on each patient’s unique needs, preferences, and concerns.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANCED TREATMENTS AND TRENDS THAT WE SHOULD EXPECT COMING TO THE CLINIC?
Dr. Halah Taha: At Ouronyx, we prioritize rigorous research and analysis of advanced treatments and products, emphasizing safety, efficacy, and long-term benefits over fleeting trends. While I steer clear of cosmetic fads, my commitment lies in adopting innovations that genuinely enhance patient well-being. Recent additions include a collagen stimulator, delivering remarkable results in facial lifting, contouring, and tightening without adding volume. Notably, this treatment boasts extended longevity compared to fillers and is seamlessly compatible with other procedures, exemplifying our dedication to proven, cutting-edge advancements.
HOW DO YOU MEASURE AND SHOWCASE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF YOUR TREATMENTS?
Dr. Halah Taha: Effectiveness is gauged and showcased through a multi-faceted approach, with patient feedback and referrals at the forefront. The high rate of patient referrals underscores the positive outcomes and satisfaction experienced by individuals in our care. Additionally, objective measurements such as before-and-after photographs, standardized outcome scales, and ongoing monitoring contribute to a comprehensive assessment of treatment impact. This blend of qualitative and quantitative measures ensures a transparent showcase of the tangible benefits our treatments provide, reinforcing our commitment to delivering results that align with patient expectations.
