For only the fifth time during her reign, the Queen has made a televised broadcast to address the COVID-19 pandemic...

On Sunday evening, a historic address marked this decade’s milestone as Britain’s Queen Elizabeth made an extremely rare broadcast to unite the public in the face of the coronavirus outbreak.

The longest-reigning monarch has been ruling for 67 years and the address on the COVID-19 pandemic marked only the fifth special televised broadcast.

The Queen’s speech, recorded from Windsor Castle, was intended to calm the nation during these challenging times. “I am speaking to you at what I know is an increasingly challenging time. A time of disruption in the life of our country: a disruption that has brought grief to some, financial difficulties to many, and enormous changes to the daily lives of us all.”

She then thanked the front-line health care workers and all those who were staying at home — “thereby helping to protect the vulnerable and sparing many families the pain already felt by those who have lost loved ones.”
