Van Cleef & Arpels’ new high jewellery collection speaks the language of love

A tribute to one of the most popular love stories of all time...
A new collection of gems crafted by Van Cleef & Arpels is figurative, dreamy and passionate. Here's why...

Van Cleef & Arpels have just introduced a new high jewellery collection that we’re seriously head over heels in love with. Its three-dimensional craftsmanship has been adorned on a range of gems that make up the maison’s Romeo and Juliet collection.

A tribute to the lovers from one of the most iconic plays by William Shakespeare, the duo of Romeo and Juliet is the inspiration behind the new collection — a celebration of love and nature.

Whilst emeralds glisten like droplets, rubies sit on a full flowered necklace and sapphire beads get stacked all come out to play, it’s the design that definitely takes centre stage here.

“For us, the choice of Romeo and Juliet was a natural one for several reasons. Literature is one of the Maison’s major sources of inspiration, and in 2003 we had already paid tribute to the world of Shakespeare with the A Midsummer Night’s Dream collection,” explains Nicolas Bos, President and CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels.

“When Benjamin Millepied — whose work we have supported for the past several years — told us that he was working on a contemporary adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, it struck me as a remarkable creative opportunity. Shakespeare’s masterpiece acts as the starting point for a new thematic collection, but also for a dialogue between disciplines involving High Jewellery, dance, music and the visual arts.”
