The Modist celebrates the ‘Contemporary Muslim Fashions’ exhibition in San Francisco

A celebration of modest wear
The Modist continued to highlight its dedication to modest clothing by jet-setting to San Francisco for this exhibition...

Ghizlan Guenez, the CEO and Founder of one of the region’s most successful e-commerce platforms, The Modist, recently jet-setted to San Francisco to celebrate the opening of one the most talked-about exhibitions of the year.

Now open to the public, San Francisco’s de Young Museum is hosting an exhibition titled the Contemporary Muslim Fashions that highlights the synergy between fashion trends and modest-wear, explores the rise of hybrid sportswear garments and features a range of designer ensembles (some of which were loaned to the museum by The Modist).

To celebrate the opening of the innovative exhibition, Ghizlan Guenez (one of the two Middle Eastern women that made it to the #BoF500 list for the first time this year), held an intimate luncheon for a diverse group of women including digital influencers Neelam Hakeem and Summer Albarcha, as well as Her Highness Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, Jill D’Allessandro (Curator in Charge of Costume and Textile Arts at the de Young Museum) and Faiza Bouguessa of Dubai-based label Bouguessa, to share their experiences and thoughts on modest dressing.

In addition to the luncheon, the group of women also hosted a panel that continued the discussion on current fashion trends, the importance of self-expression, how the exercise of choice is the most powerful tool in dressing and Muslim modest dress codes.

The Contemporary Muslim Fashions exhibition will run until January 2019.
