Michael Kors is reassessing the fashion calendar

The designer is skipping New York Fashion Week this September and instead, reassesses the calendar...

Michael Kors has said “goodbye for now” to New York Fashion Week and has opted out of the September event. Instead, the designer is re-evaluating his namesake label’s calendar and will showcase a Spring ’21 presentation in October or November this year.

Like Michael Kors, several designers across the globe have taken a step back (prompted by the coronavirus lockdowns), and assessed their participation in international fashion weeks, and the overall calendar as a whole.

“I have for a long time thought that the fashion calendar needs to change,” the designer said in a statement released yesterday. “It’s exciting for me to see the open dialogue within the fashion community about the calendar — from Giorgio Armani to Dries Van Noten to Gucci to YSL to major retailers around the globe — about ways in which we can slow down the process and improve the way we work. We’ve all had time to reflect and analyse things, and I think many agree that it’s time for a new approach to a new era.”

Kors will continue to produce two collections per year for the Michael Kors Collection (one for the Spring/Summer season and one for Fall/Winter) however, the format for this Fall’s Kors presentation is still being determined.
