Karl Lagerfeld built a beach in the Grand Palais for Chanel’s S/S ’19 show

Because he can
Chanel's S/S '19 show took place this afternoon in Paris and transported everyone to the beach...

Leave it to Karl Lagerfeld to create an incredibly realistic beach in the middle of the Grand Palais in Paris. Of course, this is the man who has previously erected supermarkets, space stations and more in the same space so the fact that he could build a beach really shouldn’t come as a surprise and yet we’re still flawed by the breathtaking scenery he built for Chanel‘s S/S ’19 show.

The fash pack walked into the Grand Palais only to be greeted by sand and actual lapping waves, with a beach setting (complete with life guards) that set the tone for the forthcoming collection. Models casually strolled down a set of stairs onto the sand barefoot with some holding a pair of shoes in their hands (a mixture of slides, midi heels and mules) before they reached the boardwalk, clad in the brand’s signature tweed suits. This season, there was even a tweed sarong.

There were also beautiful silk dresses and separates in vibrant prints, as well as an array of ’80s-inspired swimwear as part of the brand’s ever-expanding Coco Beach collection. Cardigans were splashed with the brand’s logo and accented on the waist and wrists with bright red and blue and double denim got a makeover Chanel-style. Waists were a focus this season, too, with logo belts expertly nipping in a variety of the show’s looks. There were dressier pieces also, with a few hints of sequins and fringing on black dresses bringing the night-ready drama to the collection.

The accessory of the season however? A beach ball shaped plexi-glass number in a variety of colours that we’re certain we’ll see all over Instagram in the coming months. The logo earrings were another highlight and have gone straight to the top of our wishlists.
