There’s an ever-growing movement in the fashion industry towards sustainable and ethical fashion and the use of fur is at the forefront of the discussion. In the last year alone, Maison Margiela, Furla, Versace and Burberry amongst the brands that have actively banned the use of fur in upcoming collections. Additionally, London Fashion Week S/S ’19 was entirely fur free for the first time ever.
Now, Diane von Furstenberg has announced her own line will also cease to use fur moving forward. According to WWD, the designer has partnered up with the Humane Society of the United States and PETA following her own personal concerns about “the ethical and environmental impacts of using farmed fur in collections and…consumer desire for ethical fashion.”
Talking to the site, Sandra Campos, the CEO of DVF said, “It’s time for us to make this change and accept responsibility to ensure that we don’t promote killing animals for the sake of fashion. We are committed to supporting the shift to a more ethical and sustainable fashion industry by providing the consumer with innovative and sophisticated alternatives. Beginning with 2019, DVF will not incorporate the use of exotic skins, mohair, angora or fur.”
DVF herself said, “I am so excited that technology has provided us a way to feel as glamorous with faux fur.”
