Every season, Karl Lagerfeld puts together the most impressive shows for Chanel.
Earlier this week, the luxury maison took the fash pack to New York to present its latest Métiers d’Art collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the space was transformed into ancient Egypt with the museum’s Temple of Dendur serving as the backdrop.
Turning his fascinations into a ready-to-wear collection, King Karl took gold metallics, lean silhouettes and rich embroideries to a whole new level. “Egyptian civilisation has always fascinated me: I get inspired by an idea, which I make a reality,” he explained.
With many variations of the Egyptian Cleopatra, models walked down the runway dressed in geometrically-shaped silhouettes, elongated shapes, ultra-feminine forms and signature Chanel pieces – all adorned in gold (in all forms including sparkling, shimmering, crackled and bronze, too).
Intertwined with a colourful palette of beige, white, black, turquoise, lapis lazuli blue, coral orange, yellow and red, the pieces came complete with exceptional embroidery with tiny stones, mini pyramids and elaborate mosaics.
We also spotted a slew of collaborations on the runway such as the works of graffiti artist Cyril Kongo (whose prints were spotted on jackets, dresses and bags) and Maison Michel, who was responsible for the hats.

Whilst there was a slew of celebrities sitting on the sidelines including Chanel ambassadors Margot Robbie, Penélope Cruz, Lily-Rose Depp, Julianne Moore and Sofia Coppola, there was one celebrity that wasn’t seated — Pharrell Williams.
The musician (who recently teamed up with Chanel to create a capsule collection) walked the runway, wearing heavy eyeliner and of course, dripping in gold. He was also joined by Moroccan model Nora Attal and Kaia Gerber.
