It’s not often — in fact, it’s really rare — that the Louvre serves as a backdrop for something more impressive than itself. But that’s exactly what happened at last night’s Louis Vuitton show. Nicolas Ghesquière built an illuminated promenade amongst the museum’s exterior courtyard which was flanked by the reflecting pools and anchored by the famed pyramid. It was fitting, given that the theme of the collection was futuristic with a distinct sci-fi nod evident in many of the pieces.
There were several key takeaways from the collection however the most important (and refreshing) was that whilst the collection was undoubtedly edgy, it was also entirely wearable. Flowing mini dresses elegantly skimmed the thigh whilst high waisted pants served to elongate and elevate a look, and each of the models sported lace-up, low-heeled boots that were cool and totally practical. Sleeves were a major focus this season, too, with many of the looks finished with oversized pleated sleeves or more subtle embellished fringing.
Oh, and the bags. There were plenty of new styles on display however our favourite was the saucer-shaped crossbody that came in a series of colours. There were briefcases, too, as well as doctor bags and new iterations of a few of the brand’s classics.
