Luxury fashion house Hermès is set to bolster its commitment to French craftsmanship with the opening of a new leather workshop in Colombelles, Normandy. Slated to be the brand’s 27th leather goods site in France, the Maroquinerie de Colombelles will ultimately employ 260 skilled artisans by 2028.
This marks a strategic expansion of Hermès’ artisanal model, blending creativity and durability to meet the growing demand for its leather and saddlery collections. The new site, located near Caen, will become the tenth regional hub for the brand, which already operates workshops in nine of France’s thirteen regions.

In partnership with local authorities and employment services, Hermès will recruit and train artisans through its École Hermès des savoir-faire, recognized as an official apprenticeship center since 2021. The initiative reinforces the brand’s dedication to preserving craftsmanship and supporting local economies.
Built on a former industrial brownfield once home to the Société métallurgique de Normandie, the project reflects Hermès’ responsible development ethos, revitalizing historical sites while ensuring sustainable growth.
This latest investment is part of a broader effort, with three more workshops underway across France, affirming Hermès’ role as a champion of heritage, innovation, and regional vitality.
