Collaborations are a major thing in the fashion industry. Whilst merging two creative heads together might be enough to create the ultimate capsule collection, Comme des Garçons‘ founder Rei Kawakubo went a few steps further and tapped a total of nine designers for the brand’s next collection.
For the new holiday range, the Japanese label has teamed up with fashion heavyweights Alessandro Michele from Gucci, Riccardo Tisci from Burberry, Maison Margiela, Jean Paul Gaultier, Walter Van Beirendonck, Simone Rocha, Craig Green, Marine Serre and Stüssy — basically, a pretty impressive list of some of the most respected designers across the globe.
Eeach brand came up with one product (whether iclothing, an accessory or design fragment), that would enable Kawakubo to develop a new holiday product from it.
For example, Gucci offered its famous green and red stripes on a bag based off the foundation of the Comme Des Garçons shopper, whilst a Burberry tartan scarf appears in the collection too.
The collaboration also marks a series of firsts for some labels including Maison Margiela as this is its first collaboration with another brand.
The collection’s international release will be on December 5, 2018, giving you plenty of time to plan which pieces to get your hands on.
