A popular name in the fashion industry to know right now is Roland Mouret. The French fashion designer (who was one of the designers rumoured to be designing Meghan Markle’s wedding dress) is synonymous with creating feminine silhouettes, abstract cuts and strong aesthetics, and with over 20 years of experience in luxury ready-to-wear under his belt, Mouret has made his first foray into footwear.
The designer collaborated with LA-based luxury women’s footwear brand, Newbark, for his first collection, and it was only natural for him having been friends with the Co-Founders for several years.
Consisting of three signature Newbark styles (the loafer, the lace-up sandal and the leather slipper), the handcrafted limited edition footwear pairs were reworked with glossy black Nappa leather, ivory eel leather and a bold print that was spotted at the designer’s Spring/Summer ’18 runway show.
According to WWD, Mouret explained: “It was nice to collaborate with a brand that focuses on flat shoes, it’s so relevant today. For me, [the collaboration] offered another approach to understand what women want. I wanted my customer to see how these amazing flat shoes can fit into their lives and be the perfect accessory to any of my clothes.”
Speaking of the partnership, Newbark’s stylish sister duo, Maryam and Marjan Malakpour, said: “Roland has been a true friend and confidant to us from the first day we launched Newbark! We are now approaching our 10th anniversary and there’s nothing more exciting than to collaborate with Roland and share our visions for all the incredible women who appreciate and love both our brands.”
