It’s quite hard to pinpoint what made Princess Diana such a fashion icon. The people’s princess has a significant amount of influence in the industry and the impressive evolution of her style was witnessed by millions across the globe, ’til this day. From the ability to wear a gorgeous ball gown one night to an oversized sweater and biker shorts the next day, her style choices were deliberate.
Perhaps one of her most iconic looks is her look for the Met Gala in 1996. Princess Diana fronted fashion’s biggest night of the year dressed in John Galliano’s first haute couture design for Dior – a simple satin slip dress – accessorised with a satin version of the house’s Lady Dior bag (another go-to accessory for the Princess). She was even photographed carrying the style on multiple occasions, that eventually, the fashion house renamed the bag the “Lady Dior” as a play on Lady Diana.
Today, Dior has announced that it has specifically re-edited the mini Lady Dior handbag for a limited run. Limited to 200 units, the reimagined icon comes embellished with crystal-encrusted hardware and a midnight blue satin. It pays homage to the Princess whilst celebrating the heritage and savoir-faire excellence of the Maison.
The release of the limited edition is timely, considering that Netflix just released a new season of The Crown this month which focuses on Princess Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki.
