Kylie Jenner just helped wipe Dhs4.7 billion from Snapchat shares

In case there was any doubt regarding Kylie Jenner's influence, her tweet on the weekend should just about clear that up...

It’s only February and yet Kylie Jenner has made headlines for several huge reasons already. The first following the birth of her daughter, Stormi Webster, last month, the second was the revelation that the photo of her newborn daughter was the most liked in the history of Instagram and now, the reality-TV-star-turned-beauty-mogul is back in the spotlight again following her most recent social media activity.

Across the weekend, the star took to Twitter to share that she rarely uses Snapchat anymore — a huge admission given that, arguably, it was the platform that helped propel her to the lofty heights of stardom she now enjoys. She wrote to her 24.6 million followers, ““Sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me . . . ugh this is so sad.”

Shortly after, Snapchat’s shares fell  by seven per cent, which equates roughly to Dhs4.7 billion ($USD1.3 billion) in loss. The youngest of the Kardashian/Jenner clan quickly followed up her first tweet with a second that read, “Still love you tho snap… my first love” however it was seemingly already too late.

The social media app has been under fire in recent months following a controversial redesign that hasn’t gone over well with users. Given Jenner’s vast sphere of influence, it comes as no surprise that a simple tweet could have such immediate impact. Interestingly, several global outlets have reported that Facebook benefited from Snapchat’s loss with an increase in its shares over the weekend. Many are now waiting to see how Snapchat will tackle this issue (as well as the dismay over its redesign) moving forward.
